In 2019, around 10,000 Indian students chose France for pursuing higher education. The target of getting 10,000 students annually in France, set for 2020 by President Emmanuel Macron and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, was attained well beforehand. The Embassy of France, through Institut français en Inde and the Campus France India network, developed an ambitious programme to this end:

Connecting 500 premier Indian institutes and universities with French higher education institutes to develop dynamic exchange programmes;

Countrywide presence with 12 Campus France offices, which help Indian students find the best study or professional programme that can boost their career; Offering over 500 scholarships in 2017 for the best Indian students, with the amount set to increase;

Launch of the France Alumni India network, an initiative to reunite and reconnect former students from France through a digital platform. The 1 000+ alumni already registered can have direct access to the representatives of more than 400 French companies operating in India, which seek young talent; France’s framing of very attractive visa policies for Indian students and alumni.

3-  Scholarships

Annually, the French government awards 7.1 crore Indian rupees (1.1 million Euros) to more than 500 meritorious Indian students who will pursue a degree in France. 4-  Visa application procedure

Different types of visa are required depending on your situation. See more details here . All students, regardless of the level of their programme, can avail of easier procedures. If you wish to pursue your studies in a higher education institution for a period exceeding 6 months, you must apply for a long-stay visa for studies. Take care to apply well in advance and make sure that your passport is valid when you make the application.

First unveiled in Paris by the French Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Development in November 2014, France Alumni is an efficient multilingual digital platform to attach, inform and guide foreign students who have studied in French higher education institutes.

6- Visas designed for France alumni

2-year Visa Extension
Indian students in France can extend their stay within the country beyond the completion of their studies so as to accumulate work experience.
An agreement was signed between the two nations during the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2015. This enables Indian students in France to remain for a period of 24 months: a 12-month visa renewable once for a further period of 12 months.

5-year Visa
In July 2013, the Ambassador of France to India decided to facilitate visit France for all Indian citizens residing in India who have studied in France. The 5-year visa allows its holders to remains within the Schengen Area for up to 90 days, with a 90-day gap between stays. In February 2016, France established the “Talent Passport,” a new type of multi-year residence permit (valid for four years) for the highly skilled foreigners who wish to live in France.
